Typical Me Tuesday: "...Nunchuck skills... bowhunting skills... computer hacking skills..."

I had this typed up and forgot to post it for my Tuesday!
Last year around the beginning of August, a friend of mine suggested I start watching So You Think You Can Dance and let me just tell you, I AM OBSESSED now. I wish that I had cable so I could watch it the same day but since I do not, I am forced to watch it like a week later! pretty lame, but still freakin' awesome!
My personal favorites are Melanie Moore, Jordan Casanova, Sasha Mallory, Marko Germar and Robert Taylor Jr. I am really hoping Melanie wins. I've loved her from the second she got on stage for her auditions... but I'd be ok with a few others too!
With that being said...
A few days ago I deactivated my facebook (FB) account. I’ve been debating it for a while and the other day I decided it was definitely time for it to go. Why you ask? A few reasons.
I spend a lot of time on there doing nothing. I look at pictures and wonder “why am I doing this, I’ve seen these before!”
I sometimes look at the fun things my friends do (mainly go to Disneyland or on road trips) and wish I had enough money to do those things. I admit doing it, but I don’t like it! I am trying to focus more on things that I can do and that make me happy and sitting there looking at what everyone else is doing does not help. I have a wonderful apartment with an amazing husband. I have a job (that I don’t like) but that pays the bills and gives us insurance.
Between Kyle and I we have some remarkable talents and we should be strengthening those. Plus now that we are married we should be learning/teaching each other about our hobbies. For instance, Kyle now makes me homemade cards for special occasions! And I now enjoy going swimming with him and throwing his water polo ball for him (he’s kind of like a dog when it comes to his ball).
Anyway, back on track. If anyone was my friend on FB you will know how much I liked to update my status. That was my favorite part of FB! I loved putting clever quotes, sayings, things that happened. It was a good way to get out my excitement when something happened and I didn’t have many people to tell, or on the flip side it was nice to have a place where I could vent when things were frustrating. I enjoyed getting comments on my status agreeing with me or congratulating me, it felt good to know people felt the same way!
BUT, there were of course, times when people would comment and say things that made me feel sad or get a little frustrated or hurt from their comments. And I couldn’t get mad because I was the one that put my status up! I just wished some people would keep there mouth shut at times.
I’ve read articles about people getting in trouble at work because of things on FB and I always think “No way, people wouldn’t bring FB into the workplace!” but boy was I wrong! I won’t go into detail but someone tried to get me in trouble at work because of things I said on FB about not wanting a job.
Now, I know it was me that accepted the friend request and I know it was me that put the status’ on my page, BUT when I accept people to be my friend on FB I expect that I can trust them to be my friend and to respect the information I put on my page. The work situation happened the day after I deactivated FB so my decision to shut down was not based off that but it just reassured me that it was the right thing to do. Some people just like drama I guess!
What I am trying to say with all of this is that yes, I will miss the FB world but why? We have all lived for so long before without it and now if you don’t have one, people think you are weird. I hope that just because I am not on FB anymore the people will not try to contact me. I love my family and friends and would hate to lose touch with them all! But people have kept in touch for hundreds of years without the internet and I think for me, its time to go back to a more old fashioned style.
I’ve started writing more letters, Danielle (my cousin) and Jenessa (my BFF from high school) are both on missions. Jeanne (my BFFAA) lives in Cali and its like writing notes to her again like we did in elementary/middle school. And Kyle’s family is all the way in Missouri so I have written letters to them.
I send out cards (
bonvoyagecards.blogspot.com) that I have made. They aren’t anything too fancy, just fun notes to drop in and say hi or thank you (or to secretly show off my card making skills).
As some may or may not know, I do not like to cook at all! I think it takes too long and it gets hot really easily and I’m just not very creative with it. I have been working on this though. I am trying to plan out meals that I can make for dinner and then making sure I have all the ingredients. It is pretty tough but I am doing better at it!
Anyway, I think this post has gone on long enough! Thanks for reading my pointless thoughts =)

Spiritual Sunday : He's Been There

Yesterday was me and The Hubsters 1 year anniversary! We don't really have any money but Friday night we went out to dinner at The Old Spaghetti Factory! We got a little dressed up (so I could show off my new heels which are adorable!)
Saturday we spent most of the day with my family. Some extended family were here in town visiting so we all got together for a party. We had shishcabobs (sp) and I made delicous rainbow cupcakes. (I got the idea for those from here http://brightwishes.blogspot.com/2010/11/colored-cupcakes-tutorial.html who got the idea from here http://daintysquid.blogspot.com/2010/09/colorful-cupcakes-tutorial.html. They are so fun and I recommend everyone trying them out!)
After we ate we went for a little swim. we made a whirlpool which you may think it would't work in a big pool that is shaped like a kidney bean but you'd be surprised! Its not the best but it definitely was fun! Also, it is a fantastic workout!
My cousin Melissa was in Africa last year and was not able to attend my wedding so this year it was very nice to be able to spend time with her! I was able to put on my dress for her! Through a random chain of events, I acquired an extra wedding dress last year and had brought it out to show Melissa. She ended up trying it on while I put on my moms wedding dress! (don't worry, we got some pictures that I'll put up when I've downloaded them on my computer!)
Around 10:00 a few family members went to bed or left but the rest of us stayed up getting drunk on caffenetied root beer and Dr. Pepper while playing Apples to Apples. All in all it was a great anniversary! And while I can think of a few different ways I would have liked to spend my first anniversary, in the end I wouldn't go back and change yesterday for anything! I love my family!
Now, for my first Spiritual Sunday I would like to share a quote that I got in seminary one year. It is from Chieko Okazaki's book Lighten Up (pg 174 - 175)
"We know that on some level Jesus experienced the totality of mortal existence in Gethsemane. It's our faith that He experienced everything - absolutely everything. Sometimes we don't think through the implications of that belief. We talk in great generalities about sins of all humankind, about suffering of the entire human family. But we don't experience pain in generalities. We experience it individually. That means Jesus knows what it felt like when your mother died of cancer - how it was for your mother, how it still is for you. He knows what it felt like to lose the student body election. He knows that moment when the brakes locked and the car started to skid. He experienced that slave ship sailing from Ghana to Virginia. He experienced Napalm in Vietnam. He knows about drug addiction and alcoholism.
There is nothing you have experience as a woman that he does not also know and recognize. On a profound level, he understands about pregnancy and giving birth. He knows about PMS and cramps and menopause. He uderstands about rape and infertility and abortion.
His last recorded words to his disciples were, 'and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.' (Matther 28:20). What does it mean? It means he understands your mother-pain when your five-year-old leaves to kindergarten, when a bully picks on your fifth-grader, when your daughter calls to say that the new baby has Down's Syndrome. He knows your mother-rage when a trusted babysitter sexually abuses your two-year-old, when someone gives your thirteen-year-old drugs, when someone seduces your seventeen-year-old. He knows the pain you live with when you come home to a quiet apartment where the only children are visitore, when you hear your former husband and his new wife were sealed in the temple last week, when your fiftieth wedding anniversary rolls around and your husban has been dead for two years. He knows all that. He's been there. He's been lower than all that."
Now, I personally have not experienced more than half of these things but I think what Brother Okazaki is trying to say is that we don't always realize how much the atonement really does cover. We often only relate it to sins or the most common pains. But it covers so much more than those things. And I hope that we can all strive to remember that if we turn to him with ANY of our pains, he will help us to fix them.

You have only to believe if you wish to acheive!

I have had an inspiration to help me continually have fresh ideas for my blog! I am assigning each day of the week a topic of sorts. And yes, I will give each day a cheesy title.

Spiritual SUNDAY - Something I learned at church. Feelings I have about being a Latter Day Saint (Mormon). Quotes that inspire me to be better... etc

Movie (or book, or random) Quote MONDAY - I will pick a quote and talk about it. It might be inspirational, or stupid, or funny... pretty much whatever I feel like or whatever movie The Hubster quotes frequently throughout the day.

Typical Me TUESDAY- I will tell a story about my life or talk about my day.

Wacky World WEDNESDAY - I will talk about something from this wacky world of ours! I have no guidelines as to what these topics will be about but I will make it interesting for sure.

Ten Things THURSDAY - I will make a list of 10 things.

Freedom FRIDAY - I don't know what Fridays will be but I send The Hubster a text every Friday when I get off work that says "FREEDOM" so I feel like it should be titled after that.

Stargazing SATURDAY - I named it 'stargazing' because we wish on stars. I will try to talk about my dreams and hopes for the future.

Well, heres to hoping this new idea will work out! I will probably start it off on Sunday at the latest!

Peace out!

Happiness is a choice - Not a drug!

It has almost been a year since me and Kyle were married and oh what an adventure it has been!

If you didn't know, depression runs in my family and I have been having a difficult time overcoming that this past year. Don't get me wrong, I love being married and I love, love my hubby, but there were a few changes that made me sink into a dark state of mind.

When I was living at home I had no bills (aside from cell phone) and was making a pretty good amount of money for a single, living at home girl. I was able to pay for some classes at the community college out of pocket and never worried about buying gas or saving money. I had my 3 younger siblings there at home and my older sister for a few months and my parents and between all of them there was a lot going on. I wasn't really hurting for things to keep my mind busy. If I wanted to go out somewhere I'd get one of my siblings and take them out for the evening, not worrying too much about the cost of things.

So when I got married and inherited electric bills, grocery bills, phone bills, rent, savings, etc, I was not physically prepared at all. I found my life had become a repetetive, never ending cycle of waking up, going to work, coming home, watching movies and then going to bed again. I wasn't able to spend money on all the activities I had before and now, it was just me and Kyle at home alone. I couldn't afford school anymore because I hadn't ever applied for scholorships or grants and I had no other obligations aside from my job. Sum all of that up and come to the conclusion that I was bored! and that was not a good thing.

My mom suggested I get some meds for my depression so I did! and they worked for a while and I could tell the difference for a while, but there was still something missing! So I got another kind of medicine and tried that one. It worked and still does, mostly. The thing I am missing can't come from medicine. It has to come from inside! Medicine can do wonders but it can only fix us physically and partially, mentally. Happiness is a choice, not a drug.

So I began to find the things in my life that I was upset with and instead of complaining about them (well instead of only complaining about them) I decided to fix them. One by one I will kick them out of my life! I'm not perfect! It will take time. Some things will fly out of my life simply because I acknowledge I don't want them there. Some things will require me to be brutally honest with myself and I will have to give them a little push out of my life. Some things though, some things will put up a fight. They will kick and scream the whole way. They will require that I force them out of my life with all the strenght I can muster - and then some! I will need help from others and they will require a life time of work.

So bring it on world! I'm ready for this fight!

"... hell shall rage against thee... and thy God shall stand by thee forever and ever. If thou art called to pass through tribulation... if feirce winds become thine enemy... and above all, if the very jaws of hell shall gape open the mouth wide after thee, know thou... that all these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good. The Son of Man hath decended below them all."
